Adult Diabetes

BDA Serving Our CommunityAdults face unique health challenges that develop with different life stages. With the aging process, adults experience health complications such as reduced mental function, urinary incontinence and other age related ailments. These issues are compounded when coupled with the complexities of living with diabetes in our later years.

In addition, men face some different diabetes-related issues than women do, and vice versa. The other factor is that as adults mature into their senior years, their age may cause even more of a decline in insulin production and an increase in glucose intolerance.

If you are an adult with diabetes or the family member of someone living with the disease, your natural desire is to do everything possible to ensure maximum health for yourself or your loved one. To help you in this area BDA offers some helpful tips for adults and seniors.

Firstly BDA stresses education about diabetes. It is imperative that adults know and understand the associated risks of diabetes. Knowledge is the foundation of living a long and fruitful life.

Secondly, please be aware that there is no general rule or solution that can be applied to every patient. Each individual requires personalized care that can only be achieved through constant contact with their personal health care provider and or physician.

Thirdly it is imperative that each individual follow the doctor’s advice to the letter. Adherence to sound medical advice will serve wonders in preserving good health. Also constant dialogue with your physician about changes in your body can serve to ward off or delay the threat of any impending illnesses.

Finally lifestyle management is the crowning element in diabetes management for adults and seniors. BDA encourages self monitoring of glucose levels on a daily basis. We provide glucose testing strips and machines at our office at very affordable prices. We also provide glucose screening.

Additionally we have pamphlets available that provide current information on managing your health. Feel free to attend one of our regular monthly meetings which are held on the third Saturday each month. Don’t forget to ask us about any upcoming seminars or conferences that may be offered here or internationally.

If you have been recently diagnosed and need a physician please take a look at our physician’s page. Or you may wish to visit our office on East Street North any week-day between the hours of 8:30am to 4:30pm. You may also call us at 356-2349 or contact us through our website for further information
